Cheating partners are on the rise in Nottingham - and the surge is blamed on life returning to normal after two years blighted by Covid restrictions. And that is a 4.5% rise on last year's figure of 28,719. The increase is due to the cost of living crisis making it too expensive for unhappy couples to divorce, so they are cheating instead, according to IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading affairs site.

Figures for other Notts locations include Mansfield (1,007 cheats, up from 940 last year), Newark (1,032 cheats, up from 511 last year), Arnold (721 cheats, up from 400 last year) Hucknall (715 cheats, up from 495 last year), Retford (666 cheats, up from 627 last year) and Worksop (556 cheats, up from 526 last year).

The interactive Infidelity Index allows users to search a town, city or postcode to discover how many people are having affairs in any locality, and is based on data from one million postcodes.
IllicitEncounters.com spokeswoman Jessica Leoni said: “We have seen a big rise in affairs in Nottingham over the last year. The cost of living crisis has been a huge factor in boosting the numbers of affairs.
"Sex is one of the few things you can do which is free and is a good way to relieve stress. Fewer unhappy couples can afford to divorce because the cost of setting up two new homes is astronomical.
"Far cheaper to stay in an unhappy relationship and have a discreet affair. A second factor has been life finally returning to normal after Covid and cheaters making up for lost time after two years of restrictions. The run-up to Christmas is always a boom time for affairs because most people are back in the office and looking for some fun.”

A woman from Nottingham, who asked not to be named, said: "This is the third time I've been a member of IllicitEncounters.
