Cheapest supermarket mulled wine unveiled at £2.25 - and it's not Lidl or Aldi

With Christmas officially landing next weekend, it's time to crack out the mulled wine.

The spicy and warming winter beverage is a classic Christmas tipple - but unless you can spare the time to make it yourself, it can often be hard to find a bottle that is both good and budget-friendly.

Supermarkets are a great option for picking up a bottle of mulled wine for less, but with so many options these days it can be difficult to know the best option.

That's why VoucherCloud has looked at bottles of mulled wine from a few major supermarkets to find which is actually the best priced - and it's not Lidl or Aldi.

The money-saving platform found five supermarket mulled wines that will bring the Christmas market experience to your home for less, and Tesco took the crown with their Tesco Mulled Wine at £2.25 for Clubcard users.

The budget-friendly festive wine is actually cheaper than one of the supermarket's popular meal deal - which costs £3!

However, for those who are designated drivers - or choose to live alcohol free - Lidl actually takes the top spot with their Deluxe Non-Alcoholic Mulled Punch (£1.99.)

Asda, however, was not far from taking the crown with their own-brand ASDA Mulled Wine for £2.50 a bottle.

Aldi came in at third place, with their own version of the Christmas drink, Aldi Mulled Wine, which is just a pinch more expensive at £2.69.

It was then followed by Morrisons who came in at a respectable third place with its Festive Mulled Wine (£2.99)

On the more expensive end of the scale, it turns out that both Sainsbury's and Iceland are the most expensive supermarkets to get bottle of festive cheer.

Both supermarkets tied for last place, with Sainsbury's mulled wine and Iceland's Harvest Fruits Mulled Wine both costing shoppers £3 a bottle.

General Manager at Vouchercloud, Danny Munday commented: ""After a difficult Christmas in 2020, we’re all looking forward to spending time with loved ones and enjoying a drink or two over the festive period.

Christmas is the season for giving, but it can sometimes be a time for overspending. With this in mind, we've put together a guide to track down the cheapest mulled wine on the market, including the best value non-alcoholic mulled wine for an inclusive festive get-together."
