Cheapest supermarket for breakfast fry-up named as Aldi and Lidl miss out

There's nothing quite like a good fry-up on the morning at the weekend - but it can be relatively pricey getting in all the items needed.

From bacon and sausages to hash browns and black pudding, all those essentials can certainly add on to your overall costs.

And as the cost of living continues to soar, most shoppers will want to know where you can continue to get your weekend morning treat for less.

Thankfully, a new study found that Asda has officially beaten out strong competition for the coveted crown.

Finance experts at Cashlady.com found that the British supermarket giant managed to beat discounted stores Aldi and Lidl, who came in at second and fourth respectively.

The consumer experts investigated the price of staple fry-up ingredients at nine leading supermarkets and then ranked them in terms of their value for money.

Items on the shopping list were enough to feed a family of four and included eggs, bacon, beans, bread, black pudding, hash browns, ketchup, brown sauce, tinned tomatoes and mushrooms.

The results found that Asda wiped the competition, coming in with a total of just £6.70 in total - that's just £1.68 per person.

That is less than half of the same shop at premium supermarkets Waitrose (£13.25) and M&S (£13.95.)

Everyone's favourite German grocers did make the top five, with Aldi coming second with a total of £7.05 and Lidl coming fourth with a total of £7.95.

On the other end of the scale, The Co-op was once again found to be offering shoppers the highest prices with a total of a whopping £15.75 for the same shopping list.

Paul Wilson of CashLady.com said: “A full English breakfast is a beloved staple in the UK, but buying every item at once can make the tradition incredibly costly.

"That’s why we wanted to crunch the numbers to find where you can get all of the key ingredients at the cheapest cost, without having to hop around different supermarkets.”

“When you’re trying to save, research and preparation is key. Investigating price comparisons and seeking out bargains before a shopping trip will help you to make more informed buying decisions, and saving money on the most important meal of the day will undoubtedly make it taste even better!”
