Cheapest holiday destination for Brits in 2022 - and beer is just £1.66

Turkey holidays have been named as the best value breaks for Brits this year, alongside the likes of Portugal and Spain.

The holiday hotspot came top in a new study comparing the costs of the likes of eggs, milk, a cappucino, beer, dinner for two, petrol and the exchange rate.

The study from Saxo Markets found that despite the nation’s inflation rate increasing 343% over the past year, Turkey still has some of the lowest costs for holiday essentials.

With a beer coming in at an average price of £1.66 and dinner for two around £14, it's well worth adding the country to your list of budget-friendly spots for the summer.

It's not the first time Turkey has been hailed as offering Brits more bang for their buck. Earlier this year Marmaris was named as the best value destination for UK holidaymakers this summer, in research from the Post Office.

The study compared the Sterling's rise/fall between May 2022 and May 2021, and found that Brits changing £500 can expect to receive over 50 per cent more in Turkish lira – the equivalent of almost £167 extra - for their pounds.

Visiting the country also just got a bit easier as earlier this year it scrapped all Covid travel rules for UK visitors.

Meanwhile, local restrictions have also been lifted including face masks, which are no longer required either indoors or outdoors, provided there can be social distancing in place.

Travel rules can change quickly due to the nature of the pandemic. Always check the Foreign Office's latest Turkey travel advice before booking a trip and travelling.
