Cheaper running costs are encouraging Irish drivers to switch to electric vehicles, new findings show.
Research from Carzone found more than half, 53%, of half motorists think cheaper running costs is the main attraction to purchasing an electric vehicle.
Whilst the upfront cost for an electric vehicle is a barrier for many motorists, 54% would be more likely to consider one in the future as they become more affordable.

The environmental impact is the second-most popular reason for driving an electric vehicle, with 30% of drivers purchasing them to reduce their carbon emissions.
More than two thirds, 69%, of Irish drivers said the initial purchase cost is their main concern with electric vehicles.
Availability and ease of charging points as well as range anxiety are also among drivers' concerns.
More than two thirds, 67%, of Irish motorists think driving a hybrid vehicle is a steppingstone in the journey to getting a fully electric car.
