Cheap £3.50 Amazon product recommended by expert that can help save on your heating bills

Turning up the thermostat at home is last on many people's lists this winter as energy costs hit eye-watering highs. Fortunately, numerous experts have been on hand to offer a variety of money saving tips that can keep you warm without leading to a hefty energy bill.

One particular handy man has been among those sharing his knowledge, which could help save people money on heating. Darren McGhee, who owns DMG Services, has spoken to The Sun about ways how homeowners can get the most out of keeping their homes warm for cheap.

One of the main points he made was about making sure to seal up any nooks and crannies around your windows and doors. "Your windows and doors are draughty hotspots, but a simple and cheap fix could help you save cash on your bills. Buy draught-proof tape to seal them up and stop the cold air coming in," he said.

"On Amazon, you can buy 10 metres of the self-adhesive seal for a few quid, for example. While you're at it, put clingfilm up against your windows to provide an extra layer of insulation."

One of the cheapest offerings online is Amazon's STORMGUARD Self-Adhesive Foam Draught Excluder priced at £3.50, which comes in white or brown. The product has a 4.2 out of five star rating on the retail website, with hundreds of five star reviews.

One shopper, called Rebecca Carter - who reviewed the item in the UK on December 10 - commented: "Can’t believe what a difference this made to the draft from my front door! Literally took 2mins to apply as well. Also very speedy delivery."

Another, by Kazzy, who also reviewed in December, said: "Saved me from renewing a drafty window and door at a time when everyone is having to be more frugal! What a difference in my kitchen since applying the draught proofing." A third added: "Wow, this stopped the draught from the front door instantly. The hallway is now very warm. Very happy. Will recommend."

An even cheaper option, also on Amazon, is the 9MM Wide Self-Adhesive Draught Tape Excluder on sale for £2.95 for a pack of two rolls. It currently stands at a solid four out of five stars in the reviews, with one buyer known as Skippy posting: "Really good quality for the price. Very sticky adhesive, very impressed."
