John Lynch and the San Francisco 49ers will leave the NFL trade deadline with a new star pass rusher to pair on the opposite side of reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa.
The 49ers reportedly acquired former Defensive Rookie of the Year Chase Young from the Washington Commanders in exchange for a 2024 third round compensatory pick.
Young will slide in on the 49ers’ star-studded defensive line that will feature his former college teammate Bosa, along with Javon Hargrave, Arik Armstead, Clelin Ferrell, Drake Jackson and Randy Gregory.
Through seven games in 2023, Young has recorded six sacks. The former Buckeye’s five sacks would lead the 49ers’ pass rush that has recently struggled during their three game slide.
Before Young suits up for the 49ers for the first time, here’s a look at some of his defensive stats and he currently ranks against other defensive ends in the NFL.
