CHAS launches a charity children's library at Errol Market

An exciting children’s charity venture based around reading launches at the Errol Sunday Market this weekend.

Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), which runs Rachel House in Kinross, has a new fundraising enterprise - a library - ready to unveil at the weekly sale event held at Errol Airfield on Sunday, August 1.

Dedicated CHAS fundraiser Jackie Campbell and a large team of volunteers will run the library.

Already the shelves are well stocked with a huge selection of good quality new and used books, games and jigsaws as well as a selection of CHAS merchandise.

At this Sunday’s opening day, there are plans for a few surprises and giveaways, as well as a rolling programme of extra events in future.

There is going to be a monthly raffle with prizes including signed books from popular Scottish authors such as Val McDermid, Fiona Gibson, Linda Cracknell and Christopher Brookmyre. Tickets cost £1 and can be purchased on the day.

Donations of more stock would be very welcome so CHAS is putting out a call to any families having a declutter.

CHAS community fundraiser, Ruathy Donald said: “We are excited to launch this exciting new fundraising library.

“All proceeds will go directly towards helping the children with life-shortening illnesses we support and their families right across Scotland.”

Perthshire businessman Morris Leslie, who provided the venue, had the interior customised for library use and has donated storage for the stock of hundreds of books and games.
