Charmed star Shannen Doherty has laser to brain to 'relieve pressure' in cancer struggle

Charmed actress Shannen Doherty has shared a video of her undergoing a treatment, which appears to involve a laser to the brain amid her horrifying cancer ordeal.

The 52-year-old American actress announced that she had breast cancer in 2015, with it later being revealed that she had gone into remission before it returned, with her revealing stage four breast cancer in 2020.

Earlier this week, Shannen gave another health update when she revealed that the cancer had spread to her brain.

In the video that revealed the sad health update, the 90210 actress could be seen crying as she underwent a round of radiation.

According to Mayo Clinic, modern methods of radiation are "precise", with the site stating that the process sees beams aimed "directly at the cancer while protecting healthy tissues from high doses of radiation".

They state that the most common kind of radiation treatment is external beam radiation therapy, which uses "a large machine called a linear accelerator" and aims "high-energy beams from the machine to a precise point on your body".

Cancer Research UK states that this is a "common treatment for secondary brain tumours".

They also state that it aims to "shrink the cancer, relieve the pressure inside your skull, and reduce your symptoms".

Alongside the video clip that saw her undergo the treatment, Shannen penned: "On January 5th, my CT scan showed Mets in my brain.

"Yesterdays video was showing the process of getting fitted for the mask which you wear during radiation to your brain".

"January 12, the first round of radiation took place.," she went on, adding: "My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life.

"I am fortunate as I have great doctors like Dr Amin Mirahdi and the amazing techs at cedar sinai. But that fear…. The turmoil….. the timing of it all…. This is what cancer can look like."
