Charlton Athletic will travel to Accrington Stanley first up on July 30 as they hope to mount a successful Championship return bid next season.
The Addicks endured a difficult 2021/22 campaign, languishing in the League One relegation zone when Nigel Adkins was sacked in October before being guided safely into mid-table by club legend Johnnie Jackson, whose subsequent exit from The Valley after 12 years last month caused no shortage of consternation among the fanbase.
Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard is instead targeting a new and improved style of football with the appointment of former Swindon boss and Jose Mourinho protege Ben Garner, who will be tasked with ending the club’s latest third-tier spell at the second attempt.
Charlton will deal with a mixed start to the new season, with crisis-stricken Derby and Sheffield Wednesday following the trip to Accrington and the likes of Plymouth, Cambridge, Wycombe, Bolton, Fleetwood and Barnsley all on the fixture slate before the first international break arrives in September, as well as newly-promoted Exeter and Forest Green Rovers.
Unlike the Premier League and Championship, the League One and League Two seasons will continue throughout the inaugural winter World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Charlton host relegated Peterborough on Boxing Day and then travel to Oxford before ringing in the New Year against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
The Addicks end what they hope will be a successful season away at Cheltenham on May 6.
