Charlotte Church shares biggest regret about renovating Laura Ashley's old home

In the second series of Charlotte Church's Dream Build the Welsh singer has admitted she has one big regret about the build. The star has been renovating Welsh designer Laura Ashley's former home and turning it into a retreat.

In the show on discovery+ and the Really Channel, Charlotte has six weeks to complete the build before she opens it to the public - which opened off-screen a month ago - and while applying for council planning permission to turn the home into a business as well as a residential home, she revealed her biggest regret. She said she had received complaints from the neighbours about the increased traffic the retreat would bring and wished she had spoken to them about the build sooner and built a relationship with them.

She said: "My only regret is not involving the local community from the start... I totally hear their concerns and their worries but I just want to be able to have a conversation with them."

She added: "I'm not some big bad investor who is coming in changing everything, making it some like commercial capitalist hell hole. I think I need to do a lot more work to integrate myself into the community."

To help make amends, Charlotte wrote to the neighbours and met with them to discuss their concerns. From this, their relationship improved and Charlotte was left feeling a lot happier about where they were at.

She said: "I take full responsibility for the fact that they should have been the first people I spoke to when I first came here." Charlotte has faced many problems while completing her ambitious build, including having to move out and live in a different house during the renovations. The star had a barn on the grounds of the property converted into a sleeping area for her and her baby daughter Freda.
