Charlotte Church blows away Ryan Reynolds with stunning rendition of Welsh anthem

Charlotte Church surprised fans with a stirring rendition of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau on the latest episode of hit Disney+ series Welcome to Wrexham.

After following the early stages of their ownership of Wrexham AFC, episode seven of the opening series takes something of a different turn, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney taking the opportunity to educate viewers about the history and culture of Wales.

There's a brief segment covering everything from the Celts, Owain Glyndwr, the Rebecca Riots, the industrial revolution, and even the roots of Dafydd Iwan's hit folk song Yma o Hyd, which has become the unofficial anthem of the Welsh football team.

Rob and Ryan even try their hands at making Welsh cakes, and take in a quick lesson in Cymraeg, before going through a run down of their favourite Wrexham goals as part of a spoof section on the popular American show Sports Center.

At the end, the pair host a fictional talk show, 'Wales Late Night', which according to Reynolds is "the only talk show that counts sheep as an important part of their demographic".

It's at that point McElhenney declares that "no show about Wales would be complete without some singing", and the pair then call on "Welsh legend, Charlotte Church".

Charlotte then enjoys a quick chat with the pair, before being invited to sing, delivering spine-tingling renditions of Men of Harlech and the Welsh national anthem, much to the delight of Reynolds and McElhenney, who are visibly impressed.

Charlotte said to the pair: "I would like to thank you both on behalf of everybody in Wales."

Rob replied: "The warmth and embrace we have felt from everyone in Wales, not just in Wrexham, has been overwhelming."

It all adds some light, and highly informative, relief ahead of what proves to be a big reality check in the following episode, which shows them taking in their very first game - a visit to Maidenhead United - where they watch the Red Dragons slump to a 3-2 defeat.

Episodes seven and eight of Welcome To Wrexham are available to stream now on Disney+
