Charlize Theron's The School for Good and Evil: Plot, cast, runtime and how to watch in the UK

Netflix's new fantasy film may just be the thing for those looking to get into the swing of Halloween. The film is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Soman Chainani.

It tells the story of two best friends, Sophie, (Sophia Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wylie). The two find themselves on opposing sides of a school where fairytale characters hone their craft and figure out their moral compass.

When is The School for Good and Evil out in the UK?

The film was released in the UK today, October 19th, on Netflix. If you prefer to watch new releases on the big screen, it's also available to watch in Curzon cinemas across the UK.

It has a runtime of two hours and 28 minutes, so get cosy and snuggle down.

Who is in the cast of The School for Good and Evil?

Leading the cast as best friends Sophie and Agatha are Sophia Anne Caruso and Sofia Wylie respectively. They attend the school, which is overseen by Laurence Fishburn's schoolmaster. Charlize Theron leads the School for Evil as the formidable Lady Lesson while the heroes in The School for Good are guided by Kerry Washington's Professor Dovey.

What is The School for Good and Evil about?

Every four years, two children – one good, one evil – are kidnapped and taken to The School for Good and Evil, where they train to take part in fairytales. In the film, Sophie and Agatha, the two newest recruits and best friends, are split up and assigned to opposite ends of the institution: Sophie is transferred to the School for Evil, while Agatha is sent to the School for Good.
