Charlie Woods Shoots 16-Over 86 in PGA Tour Pre-Qualifier

Charlie Woods, son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, shot a 16-over par 86 in his attempt to qualify for the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic on Thursday.

Woods, 15, teed it up in a pre-qualifier at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla., with hopes of advancing to the Cognizant Classic’s Monday qualifier. It was clear the teenager struggled through his round.

Playing against an elite field of professionals and a handful of other amateurs, Woods carded a 47 on the front nine which included a 12 on the par-4 7th. He closed with a 39, with two bogeys and a double on his back nine.

The clubhouse leader at Woods’s qualifying site among the early starters was Billy Basham, who posted a 5-under 65.

Woods has played competitively at the junior level but Thursday’s pre-qualifier marked his first solo attempt at a professional event. The teen has partnered up with his father in the PGA Tour’s annual parent-child tournament, the PNC Championship, for four consecutive years.

The high school freshman has yet to tee it up in a USGA qualifier or an AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) tournament. He’ll make his AJGA debut next month at the Will Lowery Junior Championship via an exemption.
