The son of late notorious underworld identity Mark "Chopper" Read has appeared in a Tasmanian court after being charged with several offences, including possession of a replica Glock pistol.
Charles Vincent Read, 23, appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court Friday morning charged with a number of driving, drug and firearms offences.
Tasmania Police said they received several reports of a car allegedly driving dangerously on Sixth Avenue at New Norfolk, 36 kilometres north-west of Hobart, just before 11pm on Wednesday.
Officers spiked the tyres of the white Toyota Corolla on Boyer Road at Bridgewater and found the vehicle at the Pontville cemetery at St Mark's Anglican church a short time later.
Police said a search of the area located Mr Read, who they allege was the driver.
Police alleged a "relatively large" quantity of drugs, believed to be methylamphetamine — or ice — was found in the vehicle.
Police said they also uncovered a .22 calibre rifle and a .303 bolt action rifle, as well as ammunition. Police also allege one of the firearms had been "shortened".
Police said a subsequent search of a residence led them to discover a replica Glock pistol.
Mr Read was also charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and several stealing offences.
Mr Read is also facing a number of other charges dating back to December 2022, including burglary, stealing $7,000 of cigarettes from a service station, and unlawfully possessing a dangerous article in a public place, namely a harpoon gun.
There is also a charge of possessing a thing used for the administration of controlled drugs in the form of a glass pipe and unlawful possession of a black and green Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle.
Magistrate Chris Webster refused bail, with Mr Read set to appear in court again next month.
