Charlie Nicholas floats Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Aberdeen plan as former Manchester United boss backed to 'relight the fire'

Charlie Nicholas has told Aberdeen to go all out in their next manager hunt by offering the job to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Stephen Glass left the Pittodrie hotseat on Sunday following the Scottish Cup exit to Motherwell.

The search is now on for his replacement, with Record Sport revealing that five names including Jack Ross and Jim Goodwin are in the frame.

But while former Dons star Nicholas believes either man would be a good candidate, he's looking for Dave Cormack to be more ambitious.

The pundit insists Aberdeen should be looking to lure Solskjaer north of the border after he was fired by Manchester United earlier this season.

Nicholas wrote in his Daily Express column: "If Aberdeen really want to make a statement of intent, they should approach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"I was thinking about managerial options for my old club and I would love them to ask the former Manchester United manager if he is interested.

"He can only say 'No' but if you don't ask, you don't get.

"People might ask why Solskjaer would even consider the Dons job given that he's just managed one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"I do get that, but Solskjaer's CV outwith Old Trafford is Molde and Cardiff City - two clubs of similar size and potential to Aberdeen.

"Why shouldn't Dave Cormack show some ambition and try to get a big name to reignite the fire at Pittodrie?"
