Dundee United won’t appeal Charlie Mulgrew’s weekend red card at St Johnstone.
The veteran Celtic and Aberdeen defender was sent off for a last man challenge on Melker Hallberg on Saturday afternoon in Perth. The Tayside side were already 1-0 down when Mulgrew made his mistimed tackle and lost the game at McDiarmid Park. United manager Jim Goodwin claimed after the game that he hadn’t seen the incident back but club officials have decided not to challenge the ordering off.
Defensive team mate Loick Ayina insisted it should never have been a red card but United have decided not to take the chance on appeal. Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie was hit with another match suspension after he appealed his red card at Ross County. It means that Mulgrew will now be suspended for Saturday’s bottom of the table clash with Ross County. The Highlanders are just one point behind United and Kilmarnock in 10th and 11th positions respectively.
