Charlie McCann 'set' for Rangers transfer exit with Forest Green Rovers closing in on deal

Charlie McCann looks set to leave Rangers on a permanent transfer, according to a report.

The Daily Record claim ambitious English League One outfit Forest Green Rovers are closing in on a deal to take the Light Blues midfielder south of the border. They say an agreement has been struck for the squad player and he has travelled for talks. The 20-year-old was offered fresh terms at the club but he's at a stage he wants to be playing regularly at top team level.

Between the Rangers top team and Colts the midfielder has made 12 appearances this campaign netting five times. He was brought on in the Viaplay semi-final win over Aberdeen last weekend in what could prove his last outing for the club. Kemar Roofe - sidelined for another four weeks in a major blow - was the hero on the day as his extra-time winner set up a Hampden return to face Old Firm rivals and holders Celtic.

Beale is busy trying to tie up deals for incoming players but did admit some could exit the club before the January deadline, with McCann looking like one of those to move on.

On transfers and Nicolas Raskin, he said: “As soon as anyone is signed and sealed you will be the first to know. I would say that we’re very close on one or two bits…

“Another good player [Raskin] one that I remember from the time we played Standard Liege. He missed the first game the night Kemar Roofe scored that amazing goal but he played the second leg. He’s a player I’m aware of, a very good player who is out of contract in the summer. One that has attracted a lot of attention. There’s an interest from us but I’m sure there is from a number of clubs."

On Morgan Whittaker, he said: “There’s no stand-off. We’re doing the business in private but in Wales they’ve spoken out about it so we’re not going to add to that. He’s come back from loan and could be in their squad this weekend. He’s their player.

"Nothing will be announced before the weekend, the focus is on this game. In the last 24 hours there’s been one or two enquiries for some of ours which is interesting. The focus is on this game but it might be the case one or two of ours might go out temporarily or permanently because they want to play. With one or two coming in you’re making room for what the squad will look like.”
