Charlie McCann leaves Rangers after signing long-term deal with League One club

Northern Ireland midfielder Charlie McCann is on the move after swapping Rangers for Forest Green Rovers.

The 20-year-old has joined the English League One club on a three-and-a-half-year deal after in a deal reportedly worth £350,000.

McCann made eight appearances for Rangers after joining from Manchester United in 2021 but is now heading south again.

It is understood McCann turned down the offer of a new deal with Rangers because of a lack of first-team football at Ibrox.

McCann told Forest Green's website: “It feels great to have signed. I’m delighted to get it over the line and I can’t wait to get started.

“Hopefully I can start getting minutes under my belt very soon.”

Rovers' Head of Performance & Recruitment, Stevie Grieve, added: “We are delighted to welcome Charlie to the club.

“He is an absolutely outstanding talent, who we will work with to develop for the future.

“He has demonstrated maturity and conviction to make the decision to come to Forest Green. We can’t wait to work with him.”

McCann came on as a sub in extra-time in Rangers' League Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen last week, but that was his first senior action since last September.

The 20-year-old has featured for Northern Ireland at underage level and was also involved in Ian Baraclough's senior training squads.

McCann becomes Forest Green's eighth signing of the January transfer window, with Charlie Savage another loan arrival from Manchester United.

Forest Green currently sit bottom of EFL League One.
