Charlie Cresswell was a name on Liverpool and Manchester United's radar just six months ago, with Leeds United hoping to tie him down to avoid losing their talented teenage centre-back. But under Jesse Marsch, Cresswell found playing time difficult to come by.
This past month, Cresswell’s agent had openly stated that he wants his client to start playing more football 'soon' amid a lack of first-team opportunities at Elland Road. Despite impressing for the U23s this season, the centre-back has seen limited game time despite Leeds’ defensive woes last season - conceding the second most goals in the Premier League.
The Whites’ league position in a relegation battle was likely a big reason as to why it would have been difficult to blood an inexperienced defender into the side, with the club well-stocked in the centre-back position.

But heading into this season, Cresswell has revealed that he does plan to discuss his contract with Marsch and Director Victor Orta, whilst admitting that could include him leaving on loan in order to play regular first-team football next season.
Speaking to the Press Association whilst away on England U21 duty, Cresswell revealed his plans: “That’s for me to discuss with Jesse and Victor [Orta, director of football] over the next few weeks and see where that takes me. But, ultimately, I would like to play more football, whether that be a loan or that be at Leeds. We’ll see.
"Marc [Guehi] and Conor [Gallagher] and Cameron [Archer] have been amazing on their loans. It’s all about taking the opportunity and really taking it with both hands. That’s what we are, we are footballers, that’s our job. We don’t want to be sitting around waiting to play, we want to be playing, whether that be lower leagues or the team we’re at."
