Charlie Bird has thanked President Michael D Higgins for his friendship after presenting him with his new book 'Climb with Charlie'.
The former RTE journalist, who is battling Motor Neurone Disease, visited the President on Friday with his wife Claire and dog Tiger. The pooch immediately bonded with President Higgins' Bernese Brod.
'Climb with Charlie' took place on April 2 this year and raised over €3m for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House. Charlie's new book, which is filled with photos from the iconic event, can be bought online and in stores for €17.99.

Following the visit to the Aras, Charlie thanked President Higgins for "extending the hand of friendship. He wrote on Twitter: "We had a great meeting this morning with President Michael D and I presented him with a copy of the photo book on that great day on the 2nd of climbwithcharlie.
"And Tiger sang happy birthday for the President. Another example of extending the hand of friendship."
The President's Twitter account also shared photos of the meeting, saying: "Today, President Higgins and Sabina were pleased to meet with @charliebird49; his wife Claire and dog Tiger. Charlie presented the President with a copy of his new book of photos from ‘Climb with Charlie'."
