Charlie Bird shares worrying health update as he can 'no longer dress' himself

Charlie Bird has shared a worrying update regarding his battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

The legendary broadcaster, 73, said he's unable to dress himself without help as his health has "taken a turn for the worst". The former RTE journalist was diagnosed with the life-changing disease in 2021.

Since then, Charlie has shared updates of his journey with MND with his followers. Speaking on Twitter, he said last night: "My MND has taken a turn for the worst.

"I can no longer dress myself without help from Claire. But I am still mobile and I have a number of projects to help Samaritans.

"As long as I have a breath in my body I am going to continue to extend the hand of friendship to help people." Friends and followers took to the comment to express their support for the beloved broadcaster.

One person said: "You are a remarkable human being Charlie. I marvel at your strength, courage and ability to think of others, as you battle this horrendous illness. Thinking of you and Claire as you continue on this journey that you have embraced with dignity and courage."

Another person added: "You are a truly amazing man Charlie and so much stronger than you realise. You are coping with the challenges you face like a hero and you are an inspiration to many more people than you could ever imagine.

"Sending you continued strength and sending love to Claire and Tiger."
