Legendary broadcaster Charlie Bird has been rushed to A&E following a “bad fall” on Sunday.
The 73-year-old, who has campaigned tirelessly for Motor Neurone Disease since his 2021 diagnosis with his Climb for Charlie events, has been regularly posting updates about his continuing battle with the debilitating impact of MND.
In his most recent post, the former broadcaster told his followers how he ended up in A&E in St Michael’s Dun Laoghaire because of a bad fall.

The veteran broadcaster did not reveal how the fall occurred but added that it was not bad enough that it discouraged him from doing the Darkness into Light walk.
In the post on Twitter, alongside a picture of his face after the falls, the legendary broadcaster wrote: “Had a bad fall yesterday out walking. Ended up in A&E in Michael’s Dun Laoghaire.”
He continued to explain how despite the fall being bad, nothing was broken and the staff were fantastic, also stating how he would still be doing the Darkness into Light walk.
Charlie continued in his post: “Thankfully nothing broken. Staff were fantastic. So will be able to do Darkness into Light with my friends Pieta in the Phoenix Park.”
Referencing his “final bucket wish” to meet the boss of the E-Street Band, Bruce Springsteen, the veteran RTÉ broadcaster added: “Still hoping I will get to meet Brucie even with a bloody face!”
Charlie is a big fan of The Boss, with the former RTÉ journalist previously telling Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show in 2021 that the song he has picked to be played at his funeral is Bruce Springsteen's Land of Hope and Dreams.
There is a strong possibility that a meeting between the two could happen, given that the New Jersey native, also 73, is due to play at the RDS Arena in Dublin three times between May 5-9.
