Retired RTE journalist Charlie Bird has issued a heartbreaking health update to his followers following two falls in recent weeks.
The veteran broadcaster, 73, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in late 2021 and has since kept his fans up-to-date about how he is coping with the debilitating illness.
However, on Monday Charlie took to Twitter saying he believed he has reached a 'crossroads' with his health, which is 'deteriorating'.

Charlie wrote: "I want to be very honest with everyone who is supporting me. My health is deteriorating and so is my movement. I think I am at a crossroads.
"But I want to continue to extend the hand of friendship. And I am going to continue to raise awareness for groups that need support."
In May, Charlie informed his Twitter followers that he had suffered a second fall in the space of only a few weeks.
He told his followers he was receiving care at St Michael's Hospital, stressing that the injuries he sustained were mild and described medical staff at the Dublin facility as "heroes."
Charlie updated his followers on Twitter, writing: "I had another bad fall yesterday, but frontline medical people looked after me so well in Michaels hospital this morning . No broken bones. and I want to extend the hand of friendship to all our great medical workers who look after all of us so well every day."
Charlie's battle with MND has caused him muscle stiffness, as well as leading to him lose his voice and to uncontrollable cry in the past.
Only weeks ago he fulfilled bucket list dream item of meeting his favourite singer Bruce Springsteen after the rock n roll legend played a series of concerts in the RDS.
It looked like he would not make it, as he was recuperating from a previous fall that occurred while he was out walking.
However, the plans went ahead and the former broadcaster was ecstatic to meet his musical idol, who gave him a shout out and videos circulated online of Charlie enjoying the first of the three sold out RDS concerts.
