Charlie Bird confirms his attendance at Bloom after recent health setback

Charlie Bird will be attending Bloom to raise awareness for the Samaritans this weekend.

The 73-year-old has suffered two falls in recent weeks and was hospitalised both times. Charlie thanked medical staff from St Michael's Hospital in Dun Laoghaire for their assistance as he recovered from his injuries.

Charlie is now back on his feet and plans on attending Bloom Festival this weekend in Phoenix Park. The veteran journalist confirmed he will raise awareness for the Samaritans at the gardening event, having been vocal about the charity's work in recent years.

Charlie wrote on Twitter: "So now that I am over the worst of my two falls, I will now be back helping to raise awareness. So I will be at Bloom this Saturday at the Samaritans stand, for a few hours. The Samaritan volunteers are really great at helping people in dark places. So let’s all support them."

Charlie has spoken about the work of the Samaritans following his diagnosis with Motor Neuron Disease nearly two years ago. He previously raised vital funds for the charity during his 'Climb with Charlie' initiative in 2022.

He recently admitted that his health was deteriorating to his Twitter followers. Charlie experiences involuntary crying episodes as part of his condition, which have worsened over time.
