Charlie Adam sways from Rangers nightmare to Champions League glory night as Liverpool prediction puts pundit on the spot

Charlie Adam can't decide whether Rangers are in for a night of pain or glory at Anfield.

The former midfielder, who played for both clubs during his career, is swaying between a heavy beating for Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side to a huge result to kickstart their Champions League campaign. Rangers lost both their opening fixtures to Napoli and Ajax but come up against a Liverpool team who have stuttered through the early weeks of the season, both domestically and in Europe.

It places huge importance on three points for both teams but Jurgen Klopp and his players are arguably under more intense scrutiny given the incredibly high standards they have set in recent seasons. And Adam isn't sure whether that pressure on the Reds will be a good thing for Rangers' chances of a monumental upset. He told talkSPORT: “You could see Liverpool winning 4 or 5-0, but you can also see Rangers going and giving it a go. They’ve shown with their performances in Europe in previous years how they can play.

Liverpool aren’t in great form. It could be a 2-1 or a 3 or 4-0. I just don’t know what to expect.

“From a selfish point of view as a fan, you can say we're competing against the big boys. Liverpool have been in the Champions League final three out of the last five years so this is the ultimate test Rangers will have had.

“Liverpool still have world class players on show. They're not underperforming, they’re just not playing to the level we know they are capable of and are having a little bit of criticism. That happens.

“It’s a great game to be part of and I’m looking forward to it. Liverpool will be looking to take three points because we know going to Ibrox is tough. That home crowd have been phenomenal over the years and will back the team no matter what.

“Liverpool need to pick a result up to kick-start their season, both domestically and in Europe after the performance away against Napoli. They got the good result against Ajax but Rangers are a good side on the road. They know how to win games away from home. They know how to stifle teams and will be hard to beat and break down. They’ll also be a threat on the counter attack."
