A repeat of the utterly enthralling Don’t Worry Darling saga could be upon us, following news that Charli XCX has been cast in an upcoming movie co-starring Olivia Wilde.
Replacing Harry Styles with another pop star-turned-actor, Wilde will appear alongside the brat singer in I Want Your Sex, an erotic thriller directed by Gregg Araki. The film, which reportedly starts production in October, will also feature Licorice Pizza star Cooper Hoffman.
While details of Charli’s role remain scarce (we’ll just have to “Guess”… sorry), Variety reports that the movie will follow Wilde as “a renowned artist, icon, and provocateur”, which is also what Charli is labelled by every breathing gay man.
The film’s official synopsis says Wilde’s character, Erika Tracy, becomes the “sexual muse” of Hoffman’s Elliot, and together the pair embark on a “profound journey… into a world of sex, obsession, power, betrayal and murder.” You know, typical Saturday night stuff (minus the murder).
An official release date for I Want Your Sex has not yet been announced, but we can expect the reawakening of brat summer upon its premiere, even if it arrives in winter.
News of the film comes just weeks after Charli revealed in an interview with Billboard that she “really want[s] to act,” with I Want Your Sex being just one of multiple screen roles she currently has in the works.
The pop star is also set to appear alongside Euphoria’s Barbie Ferreira and Stranger Things‘ Dacre Montgomery in Faces of Death, an upcoming reboot of the 1978 film of the same name. It’s also been reported that Charli went to Poland this month to meet with Jeremy O. Harris, the screenwriter behind Twitter thread-turned-movie, Zola.
Wilde, meanwhile, most recently starred in Don’t Worry Darling, the press junket for which involved a supposed love triangle, a spitting debacle, and Wilde being served divorce papers from Ted Lasso star Jason Sudekis.
It’s not yet known whether I Want Your Sex will appear on Charli’s list of films with BBE (Big brat Energy), which dropped in June and featured cult classics like Project X, Wild Child and To Die For.
