Call up your mates: it looks like ‘brat summer’ is yet to be over. Following her groundbreaking (and long overdue) success with her sixth album, brat, UK singer-songwriter Charli xcx (real name: Charlotte Emma Aitchison) is aiming her sights onto a whole new creative endeavour: conquering Hollywood.
The British pop icon is teaming up with beloved indie film company A24 to produce and star in The Moment, a film based on her own original concept.
What’s the plot of Charli xcx’s upcoming A24 flick?
Plot details are currently under wraps and, since the film is in very early development, we probably won’t hear much for a little while longer.
What we do know, is that the film will be produced by xcx’s very own production company, Studio365, directed by Scottish director and photographer Aidan Zamiri (in his feature film debut), written by Bertie Brandes, and the film’s score will be composed by longtime xcx-collaborator A.G. Cook — meaning that a plethora of bouncy new hyperpop anthems are soon coming our way.
In terms of the cast, only Miss xcx herself is confirmed so far.
What’s Charli xcx’s experience with acting?
The British songstress has shown off her acting chops mostly through voicework for films (she’s lent her voice to family flicks such as The Angry Birds Movie and UglyDolls), but she isn’t a stranger to the wide world of acting.
Previously, the star made a cameo in Pretty Little Liars and even handled the monolith task of hosting Saturday Night Live just last year, and has a handful of upcoming roles in both movies and TV that we’ll get to see very soon.
This includes the period-drama fantasy film 100 Nights of Hero alongside Emma Corrin, Nicholas Galitzine, Maika Monroe, and Richard E. Grant, as well as erotic thriller I Want Your Sex with Olivia Wilde, Margaret Cho, Johnny Knoxville, and Daveed Diggs.
In an interview with Variety, xcx stated that she’s been “learning from great directors and actors” to hone her acting skills.
“I hate it when musicians dive into a different field, head-first, without really researching or learning much of anything about it.
“So I did a lot of reading to educate myself over the past three or four years before I actually did anything,” she said.
When will The Moment be out?
This movie is still very much in its infancy, so we will most likely see a theatrical release near the end of 2025 or early 2026 (but nothing is confirmed yet).
In the meantime, we recommend blasting nothing but brat until the first trailer drops.
