Charli xcx Just Shared The ‘Manifesto’ She Wrote For Brat: ‘Some People Will Hate It’

Days after she had her Letterboxd profile leaked to the public, pop queen Charli xcx has given fans an even closer look into her mind by releasing screenshots of the “manifesto” she wrote for brat before the album came to be.

In the modern equivalent of having Leonardo Da Vinci share his first drafts of the Mona Lisa, the woman who started the hottest music trend of the summer has just given a sneak peek into how she did it.

So what did Charli think about brat before cooking it up? Did she know it was always going to be the cultural phenomenon it became? And how did she do it?

In a post to her private Instagram which has more than 142,000 followers, the “Guess” singer gave her biggest fans a look at the “manifesto” she claims came before the album that changed music forever.

Several screenshots of the images were shared then X by the social media account Pop Crave, which showed that Charli had planned for the iconic album to be “obnoxious, arrogant and bold”.

To begin with, the simple manifesto gave insight into Charli’s thought process for the album’s simple but recogniseable art.

“The artwork for BRAT will be obnoxious, arrogant and bold. Some people will hate it,” read Charli’s manifesto, stylised in all-caps.

“It will be heavily text-based, either font on a plain background or some kind of painted on a wall or disregarded object.”

In another of the leaked manifesto slides, Charli wrote that there would be “no explanation” for what she does.

“The answer is always ‘No comment’. We must cultivate desire, chaos, and destruction,” she wrote.

In the sacred manifesto, the “Von dutch” singer also described the process she would undertake to generate hype and curiosity over the album, before it was even announced.

Many of these plans came to fruition, like Charli playing unfinished demos of brat tracks at rave sets.

The final page of the brat-ifesto ends with the artist getting ominous about the need for people to “understand” her “vision”.

“You need to understand my vision. This is global. I will provide momentum and tell the story in a laser [focused] way,” she stated.

“We must execute everything with power and confidence.”

Charli then finished with an almost prophetic call to action: “The angels are ready and waiting. This is the moment.”

Since the release of the brat manifesto, fans of Charli xcx have praised how she was able to execute the album in the way she set out to.

“And the people ate it up just as she expected,” commented a fan.

“She was right in every aspect,” another wrote on X.

“I remember people hated the brat album art and now it’s one of the most iconic pop pieces of the 2020s.”

All in all, the most page-turning manifesto I’ve read since Luigi Mangione‘s old tweets.
