Charleston, South Carolina is currently experiencing flooding as a result of heavy rainfall ahead of Debby's anticipated deluge. The city's police department has reported that some roads are already underwater due to the soaking rain.

With over 2.5 inches of rain already fallen, Charleston has broken its rainfall record for this date. While today's rainfall may not be the most extreme the city has faced, the ongoing flooding poses a significant risk for the days to come.

The forecast indicates that heavier rain is expected on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with each day potentially ranking among the city's top 10 wettest days on record. The continuous downpour leaves little time for floodwaters to recede, escalating the threat of life-threatening floods with each passing day.

By Friday night, Charleston could be inundated with 20 to 30 inches of rain, further exacerbating the flooding situation in the city. As the impacts of Debby persist, it is crucial for residents to adhere to safety precautions.

Authorities advise against driving around barricades and urge individuals to limit travel unless absolutely necessary. Some roads have already been closed due to flooding, and the situation is expected to worsen in the coming days.

For the most up-to-date information on road closures and safety alerts, residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels. Stay safe and exercise caution during this period of heightened flood risk in Charleston.
