Charles Pickel to Celtic transfer latest as scouts watch midfielder

Celtic scouts will watch transfer option Charles Pickel in action tonight, according to a report.

It's claimed Parkhead talent spotters will watch the midfielder in the Serie A promotion play-offs.

Pickel, 27, will feature for Cremonese against Venezia in a two-legged play-off - and Football Scotland reports scouts will be in attendance for Celtic.

The holding  midfielder had been offered to Celtic after the club indicated they were seeking a player in the position.

It's reported intermediaries offered Pickel as a transfer solution for Celtic but with the choice over any further action firmly in the hands of Parkhead chiefs.

Now, it appears Celtic could be considering a transfer swoop with scouts set to run the rule over Pickel this week.

Cremonese - who finished fourth in Italy's second tier - first play Venezia at home on Thursday before the second leg on Sunday.

It's thought interest in Pickel - from DR Congo - extends beyond Celtic with English Championship duo Leeds and Preston linked with transfer approaches.

However, the outlet claims Celtic would be Pickel's number one choice should an offer be tabled from Parkhead.

Meanwhile, Wrexham winger James McLean has revealed he tried to join Celtic for a decade but couldn't because the club chiefs were "s*** scared of drama".

The 35-year-old - who has played for Republic of Ireland 104 times - was desperate to sign for Celtic.

However, he claims any hopes of a move were scuppered by fears over "drama" should he be signed.

Responding to a fan request for him to sign for Celtic, McLean explained: "Tried for 10 years, board s*** scared of 'drama'."
