Charles Leclerc has stormed to a third consecutive pole position in Azerbaijan, beating Red Bull's Max Verstappen on Friday.
The Ferrari driver's 19th career pole is the team's first of the season, which has been marred by disappointment from the opening three races.
Entering the Azerbaijan Grand Prix fourth in the constructors' championship, Leclerc said the pole position around the streets of Baku was a confidence boost.
"[It feels] really good especially considering the beginning of season I've had. Obviously, we haven't had the greatest of beginnings, but it's great to be back on pole," he told media.
"I didn't expect it and I think we came into the weekend thinking it would already be a great result if we were in front of the Astons and Mercedes and now we find ourselves on pole."
McLaren enjoyed a successful Friday qualifying session, with both drivers finishing in the top 10.
Lando Norris qualified seventh while Australian teammate Oscar Piastri was 10th fastest.
"Tenth in qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix, I'm pretty happy with that. It's great to have both of us in Q3," Piastri said.
Friday's qualifying session has set the grid for Sunday's race.
F1 is holding its inaugural Sprint Saturday this weekend.
A shorter qualifying session will be held at the beginning of Saturday, followed by a 100km race that afternoon.
The sport has had sprint qualifying sessions since 2021, with the shorter race setting the grid for the grand prix on Sunday.
But those sprint races will be standalone events this year, worth championship points to the top eight finishers.
