On Inside the NBA, receiving a fateful “guarantee” of victory from Hall of Fame forward Charles Barkley is akin to a kiss of death.
In 2021, for instance, Barkley went a staggeringly poor 10-for-25 on playoff guarantees—though he did catch fire with five straight correct guarantees in the Eastern Conference finals between the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks.
It turns out that Barkley’s lack of prognostication prowess is not limited to the NBA.
On Thursday, Barkley conceded that he went 0–3 betting against the Kansas City Chiefs in this year’s NFL playoffs—and congratulated quarterback Patrick Mahomes for his success.
“Pat Mahomes. Number one, you and [tight end] Travis [Kelce] and [defensive tackle] Chris Jones, I love you. [Coach] Andy Reid, congratulations,” Barkley said. “Yeah, I bet against you at Buffalo [Bills]. Yeah, I bet against you at Baltimore [Ravens]. And I bet against you in the Super Bowl. I was 0-for-3.”

“Three-time loser,” Hall of Fame center Shaquille O’Neal chimed in.
After a lackluster regular season (by their lofty standards), Mahomes and the Chiefs beat the Bills 27–24 in the divisional round and the Ravens 17–10 in the AFC championship before downing the San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in overtime to win Super Bowl LVIII.
