Charity night will honour tragic Blantyre man, Kyle Monteith

Family and friends of a tragic young Blantyre man will host a charity night in his memory next month, just over two years on from his untimely death.

Kyle Monteith will be remembered at a ticket only event to be held at Blantyre Vics Football Club on February 19, with money raised going to Lanarkshire charity, Chris' House.

The 20-year-old Rangers fan was found dead in Blantyre's Station Road in November 2019 leaving his close-knit family, girlfriend Elle Jean, and large circle of pals devastated.

So popular was Kyle that thousands of Rangers fans honoured him with a minute’s applause in the 20th minute of their 5-0 win over Hearts at Ibrox a few weeks after his death.

In a further touching gesture, more than 600 people attended a balloon release at Blantyre’s Kirkton Park in his memory just days after his death.

His friends and family also donned red, white and blue at his funeral and made it their mission to organise charity events - including a football match that was sadly cancelled due to the pandemic on what would have been Kyle’s 21st birthday - to give something back to Chris' House, who have supported them all over the last two years.

Kyle's cousin Abbie Young told Lanarkshire Live : "We are hosting a charity night in memory of Kyle on February 19.

"We will be raffling off prizes which have all been kindly donated to us with all proceeds going to the amazing charity, Chris' House, based in Wishaw.

"They are an amazing centre who help, respond and intervene surrounding suicide and they helped our family a lot following Kyle’s passing.

"We have already have some donations and prizes for the night and we can’t thank everyone enough for their support.

"However, if anyone would still like to donate a prize so we can raise as much funds for the charity as possible we would be so grateful.

"If anyone would like to or knows of any small/local businesses who may help with donations of a voucher, gift hamper, bottle - anything at all is very much appreciated, then please get in touch with myself at abbie.young1@hotmail.co.uk or find me on Facebook."
