Charity boss who accused Harry of 'bullying and harassment' quits social media after facing racist pile-on

The boss of Prince Harry’s Africa-based charity, who accused the estranged royal of “bullying and harassment”, has quit social media after being subjected to an onslaught of racist abuse.

Dr Sophie Chandauka, who quit as chairman of Sentebale last week, has accused the Duke of Sussex of staging a “cover-up” of an investigation into wrongdoing at the organisation.

Harry is also alleged to have sent an “unpleasant” and “imperious” note to Dr Chandauka demanding she 'explain herself' when she declined to publicly defend his wife Meghan after a charity polo match in Florida last year.

But Dr Chandauka, who had led Sentebale since 2023, has deleted her X account due to "online bullying" following her remarks, including racism.

One troll, who uses #TeamSussex in their bio, called Dr Chandauka a derogatory term about black people, while another branded her a “fraud jumping on a bandwagon of hate”.

Others shared baseless conspiracy theories about Dr Chandauka, including the false suggestion that she is employed by the Royal Family to bring down the charity Harry launched two decades ago.

A spokesman for Sentebale said: “Dr Chandauka deleted her Twitter (X) account due to the proliferation of online bullying.”

Yesterday, Sentebale trustees hit out at the way the charity’s finances were managed amid a wave of resignations.

Sentebale, which was founded in 2006 by Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in memory of Princess Diana, was in deep financial trouble despite getting £1.2 million from the Duke from the proceeds of his memoir Spare.

The charity was plunged into civil war last week when Harry announced his "truly heartbroken" decision to resign as the charity’s patron following a breakdown in his relationship with Dr Chandauka.

Dr Chandauka, who ran Sentebale since 2023, accused the duke of being in a “cover-up” of an investigation about bullying, harassment and misogyny at the organisation, which employs more than 500 people.

Sources close to Sentebale’s former trustees said Dr Chandauka's comments are a "deflection" and “baseless”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have yet to formally respond to the allegations.
