When it rains, it pours. In Los Angeles, it is pouring.
The Chargers announced Friday that they waived defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day, who had started 14 games this season for the team.
Prior to the 2022 season, Joseph-Day inked a 3-year, $24 million contract with Los Angeles to defect from the other LA team, where he had played under Brandon Staley. Staley was fired last Friday following a 63-21 loss to the Raiders on Thursday Night Football.
In 30 games with the Chargers, Joseph-Day had 87 total tackles, including five sacks and twelve tackles for loss. Los Angeles ranked last in the NFL in rushing defense last season but improved to 16th in 2023. He was also a frequent featured member of the Chargers’ social content.
Joseph-Day is the fourth departure from the Chargers in the last seven days. Staley and general manager Tom Telesco were fired last Friday, with defensive line coach Jay Rodgers also let go on Saturday.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Friday that Joseph-Day is a potential addition for a playoff team down the stretch.
