JoJo Wooden’s first move as interim general manager came on Monday morning.
Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Chargers have signed quarterback Will Grier to the active roster. Grier was previously on the Patriots practice squad.
A third-round pick in 2019, the 28-year-old Grier has spent time with the Panthers, Cowboys, Bengals, and Patriots. His time in Dallas overlapped with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier.
Grier has not seen regular-season action since his rookie season in 2019, when he started two games for the Panthers. He went 28 of 52 for 228 yards, adding 22 yards on the ground, but threw 4 interceptions to 0 touchdowns.
Grier will likely be added as the backup to Easton Stick, who took over the starting job from Justin Herbert after the franchise quarterback was placed on injured reserve with a broken finger last week.
A corresponding move to open the roster spot for Grier has yet to be announced.
