Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks as a result of an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot. The injury was confirmed following a practice session on Wednesday. Medical professionals anticipate that the fifth-year quarterback will be prepared for the regular-season opener on September 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh mentioned that the exact timing of the injury is unknown. However, Herbert is still participating in team meetings and engaging in some conditioning activities. He will undergo a two-week period in a walking boot, followed by a gradual return to play protocol as outlined by the Chargers.

This injury marks the first significant setback during Harbaugh's initial training camp as Chargers coach. Harbaugh has been deliberate in gradually increasing the intensity of practices to reduce the risk of soft tissue injuries.

Herbert has encountered a series of injuries in recent seasons, including bruised ribs, a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder, and two broken fingers, one of which affected his throwing hand and caused him to miss the final four games of the previous season.

Despite the setback, Herbert had garnered praise from Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman for his rapid grasp of the team's offensive schemes during offseason workouts and training camp.

Harbaugh affirmed that the team's preparation remains on track and unaffected by Herbert's injury, emphasizing a full-speed approach moving forward.

During Herbert's absence, Easton Stick, who started four games last season, will assume the majority of snaps with the first team. The Chargers also have Max Duggan and undrafted rookie Casey Bauman on the roster as additional quarterback options.

Harbaugh commended Stick's work ethic and professionalism, highlighting his dedication and approach to the game.
