Chargers QB Justin Herbert suffers plantar fascia injury, expected to be ready for start of regular season

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has been diagnosed with a plantar fascia injury in his right foot, the team announced on Thursday.

The injury occurred during Wednesday’s practice.

Doctors have recommended approximately two weeks in a boot followed by a graduated return to play protocol.

The team expects Herbert to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Even though Herbert is expected to be ready by Week 1 against the Raiders, missing this time is crucial because it’s lost time on getting him acclimated to the new offense.

It’s important that the team is cautious with his recovery since this injury is painful and could worsen if it’s not managed properly.

With Herbert expected to be sidelined likely for the remainder of the summer, Easton Stick will get most of the reps with the first-team offense.

We will continue to update you on Herbert’s status.
