The Chargers have made a move to bolster their linebacking corps.
With Drue Tranquill still testing the free agent market and likely to command a price Los Angeles cannot match, the Chargers moved in on former Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks. The 2019 All-Pro signed a two-year deal to come to LA, per ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry.
It’s a homecoming for Kendricks, who starred at Hoover High School in the Fresno, CA area before moving south to play for UCLA from 2010 to 2014. The 2014 Butkus Award winner as college’s top linebacker, Kendricks was drafted in the second round by the Vikings in 2015 and spent his entire career in Minnesota before being released on March 6.
Kendricks made 113 regular-season starts in Minnesota, as well as six in the playoffs. He has 919 career tackles, 54 tackles for loss, nine interceptions, 15 sacks, 51 passes defended, four forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.
Now, Kendricks joins the Chargers, where he should be given an opportunity to start either alongside or in lieu of Kenneth Murray Jr.
