Chapters Bookstore says one last thank you in emotional farewell message

Chapters Bookstore has thanked its customers for nearly four decades of support in an emotional goodbye message.

The iconic Dublin store closed its doors forever on Monday following nearly 40 years in business.

And in a heartfelt tweet, a spokesperson for the bookstore said: "One final thank you for your support and custom over the past 39 years.

"It has been great to see so many of you over the past number of months.

"The whole team is humbled by the response to our closure, and so proud of the legacy that we leave behind."

Chapters was Ireland's largest independent books shop and first opened on Wicklow Street in 1983.

Since then, it moved to St Stephens Green, Henry Street and Abbey Street, until it opened at its current location on Parnell Street.

Last October, the bookstore announced they would permanently close in the coming months.

Dubliners expressed their sadness as they shopped in the shop this afternoon.

One man told Dublin Live: "It's a great place to come and browse around, we'll miss it."

Another Dublin shopper said: "It's awful, it's a real loss for the area. It's such a pity."
