Chaos Erupts as Father of Two Tries to Take Over Domestic Mexican Flight and Fly It to US to Escape Death Threat

A man allegedly tried to forcefully change the course of a flight from Mexico to the US, resulting in him being detained by the Mexican National Guard.

On Sunday, a passenger attempted to change the course of a local flight within Mexico by forcing crew to fly to the US instead.

The 31-year-old man attempted to enter the cockpit of the plane as it flew from Guanajuato to Tijuana, and also reportedly assaulted a flight attendant, said the Mexican Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection.

Crew members on Volaris Flight 3041 were able to overpower the man and turn him over to authorities at Guadalajara International Airport, reported NBC News.

Volaris, a Mexican airline, shared that all passengers and crew members who had been on that flight were unharmed. Furthermore, they stated that their staff "acted in accordance with established safety procedures and protocol."

"All passengers, crew and aircraft are safe," Volaris said.

According to The Mexican Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, the man, who had been accompanying his two children on the flight, told the crew that a close relative of his had been kidnapped and was being held hostage. He believed his relative would be killed, and that he would as well if he traveled to Tijuana.

Authorities also reported that the man claimed to have been receiving death threats, and feared for his life.

Following his removal from the aircraft, the plane continued to its final destination as scheduled.
