CHAOS at troubled pub as punters throw bricks and wheelie bins in the street just days after it reopens

A troubled pub at the heart of a north Manchester estate has once again erupted in chaos after punters threw bricks and wheelie bins during a night of disorder.

Police were called to The Vine pub on Glendower Drive in Collyhurst in the early hours of Sunday morning (May 7) to reports of a disturbance just days after the pub's reopening. Eight people were 'throwing bricks and wheelie bins', with residents reporting hearing 'screaming and shouting' from the vicinity of the venue.

The M.E.N. understands the incident unfolded following Coronation celebrations at the pub. Police say the group dispersed before officers arrived on the scene.

The Vine has a troubled history with violence and anti-social behaviour. In March, the pub saw its licence temporarily suspended after reports of 'violent disorder and a firearms discharge' in the vicinity of the venue. Following the incident, Coun Pat Karney, Labour member for Collyhurst on Manchester Council, previously said the pub was in 'last saloon territory'.

And in 2020, police visited the pub after a 'fight broke out' between two families.

The Vine reopened just five days ago on May 2.

Coun Karney told the M.E.N: "I'm just absolutely flabbergasted that five days after reopening, after a very serious disturbance at the pub, that local people are subject to this. Obviously I will be calling for a meeting with GMP and licensing officers."

A spokesperson for GMP said: "At approximately 1.20am this morning, Sunday, May 7 2023, GMP received reports of a disturbance at the Vine Pub on Glendower Drive. There was a group of around eight people throwing bricks and wheelie bins. They had dispersed before police arrived."

The MEN has approached The Vine for comment.
