Channel 5 viewers were 'too scared to sleep' after watching the channel's new thriller Witness Number 3 last night.
The four-part series, which depicts a gang's brutal revenge on target Jodie, played by Eastenders ' Nina Toussaint-White, was written by Diarmuid Goggins.
Much like his work on Silent Witness, the director packed a whole heap of drama into Tuesday night's episode with his poor protagonist subject to some terrifying abuse.
Fans were on the edge of their seat during the show with many taking to Twitter admitting how scared they were.
One said: "Sinister on another level, I won't sleep tonight. Oh my god."
Another wrote: " "F*****g hell #witnessnumber3. Anxiety is through the roof!"
While another mused: "So sinister and creepy .But it’s brilliant, I love the way it’s been shot, really different, excellent direction and camera work! I’m starting to not trust anyone now, I’m getting paranoid like Jodie."
The single mum finds herself at the gang's mercy after witnessing a murder.
Jodie reckons she's doing the right thing by coming forward revealing what she knows and is told by the police her identity will be kept anonymous.
However, she soon sinks into paranoia as a terrifying campaign to silence her gets underway by the masked gang.
EastEnders fans will recognise actress Nina from her role as Bradley Branning 's girlfriend Sydney Chambers.
She stars in the show alongside Royle Family actress Sue Johnston, who plays Jodie's mother Cathy.
The series should give Channel 5 a boost after viewers were devastated when the broadcaster announced it was taking Neighbours off air.
After 37 years, fans are bidding farewell to the Aussie soap, which will wrap up in a series finale on July 29.
There will be an antepenultimate episode in the usual TX slots of 1.45pm and 6pm followed by the history-making finale which will air as a double episode at 9pm the same evening.
Witness Number 3 continues on Channel 5 tonight at 9pm
