Channel 5's Police Interceptors: 100mph police chase and huge cannabis farm raided

A frantic police chase and a huge cannabis farm were featured in the latest episode of Channel 5 show Police Interceptors filmed in Nottinghamshire.

The programme returned at 8pm on Wednesday, March 9, where officers from Nottinghamshire Police made a number of arrests, in relation to separate incidents.

Viewers saw officers discover a cannabis farm in Aspley.

In one of the more captivating moments of the show, officers had been tipped off by an anonymous call that people had been growing the illegal substance, with police going on to smash the door down.

Upon arrival two men attempted to flee the home but were apprehended and arrested by officers who were surrounding the house.

Police then checked the rest of the property to find 50-60 plants growing inside "every nook and cranny".

Three men were eventually arrested, charged and sentenced to nine, eight and five months in jail for possession of cannabis.

The show delivered some interesting insight into the growth of cannabis plants, as viewers were told that most large farms were likely to be grown in rented accommodation.

A tactic usually deployed in the cultivation of cannabis is to rent a property, under the guise of family home, but then turn whole property into a cannabis factory.

Next up, a gripping car chase saw two officers out in the city on October 11, 2020, before being alerted to a car reported stolen from Bedale Road, Sherwood, the previous evening.

With sirens and lights on, the officers track the vehicle down on the junction of Mapperley Road and Woodborough Road just after 2am.

Officers attempt to pull the car over but he failed to stop, and the pursuit officers then chased the Renault Kadjar.

The driver - Oreece Francis, 29, of Canal Street in Nottingham city centre - sped onto Mansfield Road, where he reached speeds of 100mph on the 30mph stretch of road.

He eventually lost control of the car and crashed into a lamp post near Thackeray’s Lane, Woodthorpe.

Following the crash, he took off on foot and into the darkness of a nearby park where police surrounded and detained him.

While being questioned, the man appeared to faint but officers were able to perform emergency first aid and paramedics were called.

Francis pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and driving without insurance or a licence.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on November 25, 2020, he was sentenced to 14 months in prison.
