Channel 4's Hollyoaks announces major change to schedule

Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks is introducing a major scheduling change as fans and viewers of the show will be able to access the episodes early.

From March, audiences will be able to watch the show ahead of the evening broadcast on Channel 4 at any time of the day of broadcast on Channel 4 website All 4.

This means fans who may miss the evening showing of the soap on Channel 4 can watch Hollyoaks at any time that day as the episode will be available on All 4 from the morning.

Hollyoaks will be the first British soap to be available to watch before the evening air time permanently and this new schedule will begin in March.

During the 2020 Euros and Olympics the BBC dropped all the week's episodes of EastEnders on BBC iPlayer at the beginning of each week due to scheduling changes in the evening. The soap has since stopped this and returned to normal air times.

Caroline Hillock, Head of Drama for Channel 4, said: "Our loyal audience want to get their soap fix when they want, where they want it and the series’ continued popularity on All 4 proves that with this new ‘stream-first’ approach we are serving a much broader range of viewers."

Hollyoaks has previously been successful on All 4 as in 2021 it was the second most-streamed series on the platform and the most-streamed scripted series. Currently Hollyoaks airs every weeknight at 6.30pm.

Recently one of Hollyoaks' stars, Sarah Jayne Dunn who appeared in the soap since 1996, quit the show to continue her career on the adult-only website Only Fans.
