Channel 4's A Place in the Sun's search in Spain raises question with viewers

A Place in the Sun host Laura Hamilton showed father and son Michael and Sami around a Spanish resort during Tuesday's episode.

The week's second instalment of the Channel 4 show saw the presenter join the pair in their search for a holiday home in Malaga on Spain’s Costa del Sol. They had a budget of £280,000 and were looking for a three-bed, two-bathroom property with a pool.

Michael initially said he wanted a penthouse or apartment near the sea, but with Sami now having a child, he said a villa with more space would be better for family holidays.

As the programme got underway, viewers were told Michael was a retired property developer. He had visited Malaga a number of times each year for the past two decades.

The revelation led to many watching at home asking the same question. Taking to Twitter, Steph said "He's a property developer, and he has a full knowledge of the area. So why does he need to be shown properties on a TV show?"

Ricker replied: "There ain't no Purple Bricks in Spain you know". Mostlystupid said: "This chap knows the area intimately and has been visiting for over twenty years but needs a TV show to find him a property?".

Other viewers defended the pair. Lorna B said: "Lighten up! It's the whole experience isn't it, and you can always switch over".

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
