A Nottinghamshire couple's ambitious plans to move to the south of France and set up a holiday retreat have been documented in Channel 4 show a New Life in the Sun.
First appearing on the show on Monday (January 17) Matt and Kimmie said they had invested all their money in the £280,000 property in Lot-et-Garonne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of Southwestern France, calling it a "big gamble".
The couple took over the 19th century farmhouse, which has five bedrooms, two barns, a pool and 11 acres of land, in July 2020 and plan to convert barns into a gîtes - a holiday home for guests.
Speaking of the process of buying the house, Kimmie told the show it wasn't originally how they imagined.
"We wanted big walls, we wanted a big open fireplace - we haven't got any of those," she laughed.
"We got nothing that we planned, but it suits us fine. We walked in and we said 'this is right'."
Due to a lack of funds, the pair both muck in with the renovation work.
While fibre artist Kimmie decorated the front of the property, remote worker Matt devoted his lunch break to fixing the pool lights.
Both struggled with the jobs, with colour-blind Matt trying to figure out the wiring and Kimmie having to repaint the entrance.
"Come to France they said, it'll be fun they said," Kimmie sarcastically remarked.
"Living a new life, enjoy the relaxation."
The Nottinghamshire pair appear throughout series seven of A New Life in the Sun. You can watch them on All 4, Channel 4's on-demand television service.
