Channel 4's 24 Hours in A&E viewers 'feel sick' as mum treated for graphic ankle injury

Viewers of 24 Hours in A&E had to turn off their TVs after seeing one of the most horrific injuries in the programme's history. The Channel 4 programme is based at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham for its 29th series - the first time it has been filmed outside of London.

In the first episode, 'Tales of the Unexpected', which was filmed in 2021 and was aired at 9pm on Tuesday, January 3, viewers were shown an equal mix of horror, tragedy and humour. The moment that generated a lot of noise on social media was Kirsty's ankle.

The 45-year-old mum, who featured at the start of the show, was rushed to the department after falling from an inflatable whilst on a fun run. Shots of her severely dislocated ankle, where her foot was barely hanging on, were bound to make watchers queasy.

Nurse Lou Davis, who has worked in the department for 32 years, said it was possibly one of the "grimmest" injuries she had ever seen. As the episode aired, Twitter exploded when Kirsty's injury appeared on screen.

@Mabel_Mouse_ said: "I’m so glad I’m not squeamish because I was eating a piece of Christmas cake just as they showed that ankle."

@sharonmcteir: "Holy crap! It’s rare I struggle look at something in real life or tv but I might have reached my limit."

@sarah_46: "Jeez 24 hours in a&e needed to come with a warning."

@cunning_chops added: "Just turned on 24 hours in A&E and had the misfortune to see that girl’s foot hanging together with a small piece of skin. I am TRAUMATISED!"

@Emiilyyy: "I’m not squeamish but the first injury on this new series of 24 Hours in A&E is horrendous! Poor lass’s foot is hanging on by… skin.. basically"

@emmapryerwrites:" Oh my god. Can barely watch 24 Hours In A&E. Thank you for the ad break. This poor woman with her foot… never seen anything like it."
