Gogglebox fans didn't get what they expected when they tuned in to the latest installment on Friday night (October 21). Viewers of the hit Channel 4 show are used to settling down on at 9pm as the weekend officially begins to join the likes of Manchester's Malone family and sibling duo Sophie and Pete Sandiford on their sofas as they give their opinions on the latest TV shows and breaking news that have got people talking in the last week.
However, this week's episode was replaced and in an unusual move, Channel 4 will instead air the brand new Gogglebox episode on Saturday night (October 22) at the same time.
Gogglebox was replaced by a one-off revival of the stand-up and entertainment show Friday Night Live. The move was made to celebrate 40 years of Channel 4. Ben Elton will be hosting a revival of the iconic show that aired on the network in the 1980s.
But it's fair to say Gogglebox fans weren't happy about the change - or impressed by its replacement. @LisaCalverley tweeted: "Not happy about #Gogglebox being moved to Saturday night this week. Why couldn't they move Ben Elton's show to later on in the evening? (like at a time I'll be in bed)."
@topgooner100 said: "So annoying we have to wait an extra day for #Gogglebox rather watch that over whatever this nonsense is." @mattyhewett posted: "No #gogglebox ? Friday evening ruined." @GavinEvs complained: "Have Channel 4 really ditched #gogglebox for this #FridayNightLive c**p."
Others, however, didn't agree. @hall291 replied: "What? Rubbish? Really - wow perspectives I think it’s great - plus gogglebox is in tomorrow." @cheapaccounting wrote: "#fridaynightlive Bring it back permanently After #gogglebox of course."
And the one-off revival of Friday Night Live left viewers gobsmacked as transgender comedian Jordan Gray blew away viewers with an incredibly powerful message. As she came to play her set, Gray sat down in front of a piano in a hot pink power suit and told the audience just how excited she was to be a part of this event.
“This is the coolest night of my life, you’re watching me experience the coolest night of my life,” she said, before launching into a funny song about her experience as a transgender woman.
But she shocked when at one point she stripped naked and said: “You know the best thing about live TV is that I can do stupid stuff like this!” before proceeding to dance around in her birthday suit. And while it came as a surprise, Gray was quickly applauded on social media.
@EnbyKets tweeted: "OMG! I am literally crying happy tears right now. So good to see someone like me just saying "f*** it!" on live national tv! Thank you & endless love, Jordan! @Talldarkfriend #FridayNightLive." @Rebecca_ResLife commented: "Thanks to #FridayNightLive - I’ve discovered @Talldarkfriend - She is incredible, that song was incredible, that performance was incredible." @ElijahMurlor added: "I hadn’t heard of Jordan Gray until tonight. My God, she’s amazing. This is the sort of unpredictable, radical satire we need on prime time TV. Beautiful work to all! Seeing a trans woman get naked on TV is *exactly* what is needed. #FridayNightLive."
